Girls, as soon as we can speak, we speak of love. Ken kisses Barbie. We have kindergarten romances that break our heart. We grow into school girl crushes and dream of marrying a celebrity super star and having his children.
Then we are old enough to choose. We choose a real boy. We choose a boy who feels right. We choose the wrong boy.
We choose a boy who we think we can mold into the dreams we have. We can pull him here and cut a piece off there and eventually he will be the right boy.
A boy that has been nipped and tucked will never be the right man. The right man is worth waiting for. The right man is worth saving your heart and your body for.
Maybe you are dating a guy and wondering if he is the right one. How can you tell?
He won’t sleep with you.
The right man will protect your sexuality. He will respect you and not put you in situations that could lead to you having sex outside of marriage. This man realizes that you belong to God and your body doesn’t belong to him until your God seals a covenant of marriage with him. Any man who doesn’t do this is the wrong man.
He likes your personality.
The right man likes you. The wrong man has little interest in your humor, your wit or your intelligence. He may fain interest to keep you around or to get you in bed. But you can tell. Deep down inside you know that he doesn’t really like being with you. He doesn’t smile around you like he does with his guy friends. He doesn’t do sweet things for you. He doesn’t really even listen to you when you are talking. Don’t waste your time dating this guy and never, never never marry him.
He shares your dreams.
Six or seven months ago God put this vision on my heart to open a salon. My husband went to every business development meeting, knocked on every bank door and has picked out every color of paint with me. He unleashed me and my potential. He is making my vision my reality. Being valued like this… well it is totally amazing.
He provides for you.
He pays. Period. This might be old fashioned but so what! My grandmother had it right. No self-respecting woman pays for a guy’s anything. The right man pays for you! The right man makes sure you have enough gas in your car and air in your tires. The right man walks you to your door at night and protects you.
He invests in your eternal life.
I didn’t say he goes to church. The right man invests in your eternal life. He is passionate about heaven and helping you get there. He consumes the word of God and feeds you spiritual truth. He consults the Almighty. He encourages you and rebukes you when you need it. He is more concerned about pleasing God than keeping you from getting mad. That is the right man.
And that matters because you matter, your soul matters, your eternity matters.
Now go! Be the right woman while you wait for your right man.
