Unseal my lips, O Lord,
that my mouth may praise you.
You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.
You do not want a burnt offering.
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. Psalm 51:15-17
This Sunday, around the world, in this country, in my neighborhood and in my church Christians will gather. We will gather for fellowship. We will gather to break bread. We will gather for collective prayer. We will gather for worship in the community of Christ.
Here’s your call- pour yourself out. Leave yourself on the floor of worship. Ask the God of heaven, as you approach his throne, to unseal your lips. Unseal your lips so that you can praise unabashedly.
Praise him with abandon. Praise him with all you have and all that you are. Praise him because he deserves nothing less but complete and total sacrifice, adoration and devotion.
Praise him for you.
Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you. Ex. 23:25
Praise him for him.
Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. Psalm 33:1
Praise him for the people.
And each morning and evening they stood before the Lord to sing songs of thanks and praise to him. 1 Chron. 23:3
So here it goes. I’m leaving my shame, my fear and my reluctance at the door. I am checking in my bag of embarassment, apathy and tired worship. Tomorrow I am ready to praise the God of heaven with what he deserves…
Everything.
Unseal my lips, O Lord,
that my mouth may praise you.
