Some days it feels like you are barely there. You are a shell of the person you once were. The sword of grief has sliced away your ability to find joy in the simplest of life’s pleasure. On the outside it looks like you are surviving. On the inside you know better. Grief is poisoning you. You are being destroyed.
If this is you I need you to know that I understand. I need to believe that you are not alone. I need to tell you a story.
Centuries ago the ancient people of Israel were being destroyed. They were being slayed. They were being poisoned too.
So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died. Then the people came to Moses and cried out (Read Numbers 21).
You see the Lord sent these snakes among them to discipline them and bring them back into obedience and ultimately back into his protection. The people did come back and cry out to Lord.
So Moses prayed for the people.
“Then the Lord told him, ‘Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!’ So Moses made a snake out of bronze and attached it to a pole. Then anyone who was bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake and be healed!”
All they had to do was look to the bronze serpent and they were healed. They were healed. Healed.
Healing may seem like a faraway, unreachable place. It may even seem like a disgrace to your child. I need you to know that it isn’t. This same healing can come to you today and there is no greater way to honor your child.
And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. John 3:14-15
Jesus is the Son of Man. Jesus was lifted up. Jesus heals.
Maybe you are reading this and think its crazy. You might think it is stupid. You might even think it’s a lie. But today I dare you to try it. I dare you to look to Jesus. I dare you to risk being crazy. I dare you to be healed.
Today is my son’s 3rd birthday. He is not here for me to bake a cake for. He is not here for me to buy his first baseball bat or dump truck. I hate that. I really do.
But today I chose to look up to the Son of Man who was lifted up for me. He took me. He healed me. And he wants to heal you too. Just look. Just look to him.
You might be ready to try it but you wonder how.
Lift your eyes to the heavens where he reigns. Acknowledge his on his throne and simply say “hello”. He is expecting you.
