Those who condemn gay marriage, yet are silent or indifferent to the breakdown of marriage and divorce, are, in my view, missing the real issue. -Malcolm Turnbull
I am not a proponent of same-sex marriage. I believe that the God who created the universe, human beings and marriage gets to choose how we bear his image (Genesis 1:26) in our gender, sexuality and our marriages.
But I gotta keep my straight friends honest here. Straight people defiled the marriage bed and the marriage license a long time ago. We have to stop acting like we haven’t.
Sex Before Marriage
Sex and sexual contact has zero place in an unmarried Christians life. Let’s stop pretending like only homosexuals are missing this.
Keep yourselves from sexual promiscuity. Learn to appreciate and give dignity to your body, not abusing it, as is so common among those who know nothing of God. 1 Thes. 4:4-5 MSG
Divorce
The straight, Christian, gay-marriage-opposing masses are members of churches who, by and large, have embraced, and at best ignored, divorce.
“I hate divorce,” says the God of Israel. God-of-the-Angel-Armies says, “I hate the violent dismembering of the ‘one flesh’ of marriage.” So watch yourselves. Don’t let your guard down. Don’t cheat. You make God tired with all your talk. Mal. 2:16-17 MSG
Adultery
All kinds of it. We do it. We excuse it. We turn a blind eye to it. We allow it and forget it.
“You know the next commandment pretty well, too: ‘Don’t go to bed with another’s spouse.’ But don’t think you’ve preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed. Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices—they also corrupt. Mt. 5:27-28
…
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality… 1 Cor. 6:9
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Col. 1: 20-21
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Heb. 9:14
