I am diverging from yesterday’s topic for a news story that wowed me this morning.
Angus T. Jones, who stars in the show Two and Half Men, has come out asking fans to stop watching filth, like the show that he is on. Jones is a recent convert to Christianity, who is contractually obligated to remain on the show. But with that, he has voiced his opposition to the immoral agenda of the show.
“If I am doing any harm, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be contributing to the enemy’s plan … You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can’t,” he continued. “I’m not OK with what I’m learning, what the Bible says and being on that television show.”
I know Christians who won’t stop watching the show, let alone go out on the line like that. It has been reported that he is making $350,000 per episode. This kid has got conviction, boldness, and a heart to take God’s holiness seriously. For that I say, we need more Angus T. Joneses.
Hollywood may think he’s lost his mind. Some reports say his family fears he is in a cult. Other people might think it’s just for publicity. But I say, this young man has grasped what being a Christ follower is all about and I applaud him.
To those of us who claim Jesus Christ as Lord, let’s seriously reevaluate the type of entertainment we fill our hearts with. God took it seriously enough to send Jesus to die for the sins we find entertaining. So let’s stop playing the part and dig into holy living. And if you doubt that you can do it, let the story of Angus T. Jones inspire you.
Imitate God… following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don’t participate in the things these people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. Eph. 5:1-14
Today I am going to pray for Angus T. Jones as he puts his faith on the line that his example will be pure. I will pray that as his character is tested that the light of the Savior will shine in this dark world.
