Cutting Up the Bible

bible

The last couple days I have learned something about myself. I want the Bible.

Duh right?

No, I mean, I want all of the bible, not just pieces of it, not just inspirational, devotional, feel-good pieces, not just the John 3:16 pieces. I want the convicting, transforming, sharper than a two-edged sword pieces too. I even want the weeping and gnashing of teeth pieces. I want it all.

I want the pure word. I want the teachings. I want the law of the Lord. I want his truths. I want his commandments.

I want the pieces I love. I want the pieces I don’t understand. I want the pieces that challenge me. I want the pieces that show me who I am. I want the pieces that show me who I am not.

I want to go as deep as I can and drink as much as I can.

Give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies…
I love Your commandments above gold, yes, above fine gold.
Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything,
I hate every false way. Psalm 119:125, 7-8

I am not going to slice and dice any more.  I am going to read it, believe and obey it. So what has kept me from doing this for so long?

Myself

But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 1 Cor. 2:14

Devil

If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. 2 Cor. 4:3-4

False teachers

These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.  But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.  So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. 2 Cor. 11: 13-15

Fluffy teachers

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 2 Tim. 4:3

Maybe you have let something get in your way of bible. Maybe it is you, your family traditions or your church. Will you do this with me? Will you stop accepting pieces and feast on the word of God completely.

Don’t know if you have seen the meme that says, ‘The Bible isn’t trail mix; you can’t just pick out the bits you don’t like!’
The thing I found so interesting about that meme is that I had many friends post and they were from at least six different denominations and many from the church of Christ.

We all think we are reading the Bible the RIGHT way and others are wrong. God says that the right way is with humility, listening to ALL of His word. Amen sister!!
