Joy! Basket

choose JOY

One of the older sisters in our church lost her husband last year. She knows loss. She also knows how to be a blessing to others who have experienced loss.

She gave me a large basket filled with individually wrapped little packages, each with a hand written scripture or quote. She asked that I just not open them all at once. So far I have opened smell good lotion, soap, body spray, lip balm, hair spray, jelly beans… and a bookmark. Each line means something to me. It reads:

God’s Promises to a Mother’s Heart

I will…

be your God. (Ezk. 37:27)

abundantly bless. (Ps. 132:15)

be with you. (Is. 43:2)

love you freely. (Hos. 14:4)

forgive you. (Jer. 31:33-34; Heb. 8:12)

give you a new heart. (Ezk. 11:19; 36:26)

not fail you. (Josh. 1:5; Heb. 13: 5)

strengthen you. (Is. 41:10)

ransom you from death. (Hos 13:14)

I will never leave you or forsake you. (Heb. 13:5)

Yes, today, I choose joy!

What a sweet idea that I will tuck away for future use. I don’t know you, Serena, but have been praying for you and your family. I appreciate your faith and your servant’s heart.

This post made my heart sing!
We did this for my friend 15 years ago when she suddenly lost her teenage son. It was a .scripture box with all the ladies at church Favorite scriptures written down and put in little “packages” inside a big box. We quoted the scripture and why it was our favorite. When you go to her house today…you will see that Box…she says she looks at the scriptures often …still.

My favorite one was Joshua 1:5….”as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.”

Oh, I think this is so kind. Then I read Dana’s comments about her friend and it made me cry just thinking of that lady still reading those scriptures and finding the comfort in *them* and the love from her friends and sisters in the Lord.
