Jenner, Gender & God

Every media outlet is on fire with the new pics of Caitlyn Jenner.

Lauded as a hero, a brave man, woman or person.

I am left with the gnawing question, “Do I get to pick my gender?” I didn’t get to pick my race. I didn’t pick my eye color or my hair color.  I didn’t pick my anatomy.

So if I didn’t pick it who did?

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:13-16

The ancient scripture says that God did.

Jesus said that God who made us also picked our gender.

“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.'” Mt. 19:4

Maybe you don’t believe there is a God. Maybe you don’t believe he is sovereign.  Maybe you don’t trust the plan he destined for you.

That God asks:

“Who is this ignorant person
    saying these foolish things?
 Prepare yourself for an attack!
Get ready to answer the questions I will ask you.

“Where were you when I made the earth?
If you are so smart, answer me.
And who decided how big the earth should be?
Who measured it with a measuring line?
What is the earth resting on?
Who put the first stone in its place
when the morning stars sang together
and the angels shouted with joy?  Read Job 38-39

That God says:

Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. Dt. 7:9

Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you. Is. 43:4

If he made the world, if he made us, if he loves us why would we argue with that?

Jesus accepted people the way they are. All the people who were not accepted by society – lepers, prostitutes, he loved them unconditionally.
Leelah’s parents did not love their child unconditionally. If they had, they would have accepted her the way she is, and referred to her as “she”.
They completely missed Christ’s point, to love people the way they are.
