Dear Christian,
You fell into my trap with such ease. You are ignorant of my devices and you don’t understand your weapons of defense. You have made this war much easier than I anticipated.
You are perfectly content with your sparse church attendance and your half-hearted devotion. You have no desire for fellowship or to serve others. I carefully pulled you away from the safety of the flock. The best part is you are so full of indignant excuses when they try to pull you back in.
You care nothing for purity. Sin doesn’t bother you. You think it’s just a choice.
You are selfish, carnal and blind. Your lips are silent of his name. You will not take up his cross. You don’t even realize he spit you out long ago.
You are in a perfect state of mediocrity. That’s just the way I like it.
Sincerely Yours,
Your father, the devil
“But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” Rev 3:16
The devil loves Christian mediocrity. It is the greatest of all deception. We feel saved but our refusal to go deeper into our commitment to Jesus leaves us lost.
Jesus wants it all.
So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:33
Jesus wants it now.
Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Mt. 4:20
Jesus wants you.
Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27
So you see there actually isn’t anything Christian about mediocrity at all. Christianity is radical. It is urgent. It is complete. It is anything but mediocre.
