I’m A Runner

"Running away will never make you free." -Kenny Loggins

“Running away will never make you free.” -Kenny Loggins

I’m a runner. I know that title got all my family and friends to click today. They know me.  No, I’m not a runner for exercise by any means.  But I do run. I run from problems, criticism, stress and conflict. I am actually pretty good at it. I would rather avoid and run away from trouble than deal with it. If I can insulate myself from it, I will.

Today, as I was facing one of those uncomfortable situations that I would rather avoid (like I’d rather have a flat tire or get sick avoid) I thought, “I don’t think God wants me to deal with things this way.” When I came home I read this:

Stand firm, and you will win life.-Jesus

Standing firm seems much different than running away. Digging deep and planting firm roots is much different from taking off in the opposite direction. I was right. Jesus doesn’t want me to run away. He wants me to stand firm.

To be honest, I’m not so excited about this change of routine. In fact typing that just made me sigh. But I think that’s what I’m being called to do today. She here it goes. I’m not running. I am standing firm.

Ha. I read “I’m A Runner” and my first thought was, “She’s talking emotionally.” I know you my friend. 😉
