A couple of years ago our church adopted a little tradition from our brothers in a local prison. When we met with them they would start their assemblies with a collective declaration, “God is good… All the time. All the time… God is good.” We now begin most of our times of praise and worship with the same declaration. “God is good… All the time. All the time… God is GOOD!”
This statement has become my anchor.
God is good when I lose my job. God is good when people gossip about me and betray me. God is good when my marriage is falling apart. God is good when I am abused and rejected. God is good when sorrows mount. God is still good when my child dies. God is good.
My heart’s desire for you today is that you would make the same declaration. Declare that the Lord is good. No matter what you are facing. No matter what you think is going wrong. God is good. Say it out loud, “God is good!”
I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises… Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:1, 8
Why does it matter if God is good? If God is inherently good (Psalm 92:15) then whatever he has allowed me to experience is for good. It is for my good. It is for the world’s good. It is for the kingdom’s good. No matter what.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
This week I am going to be following the steps of King David, as he penned them in Psalm 34. David was a man of God, in fact the scriptures say he was a man after God’s own heart. David experienced great triumph, great betrayal, great victory and great loss. Join me as we retrace his steps of praise through his own tribulation.
And remember, God is good… All the time. All the time… God is good.
