Getting My Kids to Mid-Week Church Services

Alarm clocks.

Rushing out the door.

Homework.

After school activities.

Bedtimes.

Back to school season is one of my most challenging times of the year. I have five schoolagers who need corralled, schedules organized, rides to school… PICK-ups from school.

The struggle is real.

In the midst of the chaos I have committed to one thing. Making sure our family gets to our mid-week church service.

Here’s why:

Our church is gathering. They are part of that church.

It isn’t about an attendance sheet check mark. It is about a commitment to a sacred trust of redeemed believers who have been saved by the blood of Jesus. My kids are part of that holy union. When their tribe gathers they will be there.

All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 1 Cor. 12:27

I want to teach them what is really important.

It is really hard to keep material, earthly things in their place. Education is important. Homework has to get done. Bedtime makes the morning easier. But none of those things will matter in 100 years from now. Learning to put the spiritual above the carnal will matter a lot.

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God… Rom. 8:6-7

Spiritual warfare is real.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph. 6:12

There are powers of darkness on a search and destroy mission for my children’s souls. I am going to use every weapon God has equipped me with to fight back. The security within the church of Jesus is a fortress for their souls.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it. Prov. 22:6
