Do you see this woman? …She washed my feet with her tears and dried my feet with her hair… She has been kissing my feet since I came in. Luke 7:44-45
Jesus, sometimes I want preferred status with you. I read about how John was the disciple whom you loved and I want to be like that. I want to be the one who gets to sit beside you at dinner and lean on you. I want that kind of closeness with you. I want that place at your side. I want to be your favorite. I want the best seat in the house.
Tonight I watched this woman come to you. She wouldn’t even look at you. She approached you with her hands out and her head down. She knows what she has done. I can tell she knows who you are.
She can’t be in your presence without weeping. She wants to honor you but she has nothing to give, She wants to wash your feet but she doesn’t even have a bowl of water. She wants to dry your feet but she doesn’t even have a towel. She wants to kiss you, but she only dares to kiss your feet. She feels too unworthy to look at you, let alone kiss your face. She lays at your feet. She has the best seat in the house tonight.
So on this journey with you, I am coming now. I am approaching you with my hands out and head bowed. My heart humbled and my faith intact. I come knowing what I’ve done. I come knowing who you are. I come to you Jesus.
I come realizing that I don’t need to be at your side. I don’t need a seat reclined at your chest. I just need you. I will take the seat at your feet. Tonight I see that anywhere with you is the best seat in the house.
