Are You Living By the Spirit?

holy-spirit1

This morning as I walked into my kid’s school and chatted with several friends, there was a reoccurring theme for all of us… we were stressed. We were stressed with work loads, Christmas shopping, sick kids, sick selves, family expectations, self expectations… And one verse was placed on my heart, Galatians 5:25:

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

I think one of the reasons I feel like I am just treading water, and sometimes sinking, is because I forget to follow the Spirit’s leading in EVERY part of my life. I shouldn’t just follow the Spirit on moral issues or doctrinal issues. I am called, as a child of God, to follow the Spirit’s leading in EVERY part of my life. I’d say every part includes, well, just about everything.

  • Scheduling of my day
  • Priorities of my activities
  • My attitude
  • Interactions with my husband
  • Parenting decisions
  • Life goals
  • Dinner plans

Nothing is too big or small. Nothing is too major or minor to follow the Spirit’s leading.

How do I know if I’m not following the Holy Spirit? How do I know that my stress load bears out the truth I am not? Because the bible says:

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

That pesky little word “every”thing popped up again. When I pray about  EVERYthing and follow the Spirit in EVERYthing my life will be characterized by:

  • Joy
  • Rejoicing
  • No worries
  • Prayer
  • Thankfulness
  • Commanding peace

So today I will walk in those promises. I will trade in stress for joy and my worries for peace and my complaining with prayer. Anyone want to join me?
